Room Tour: Naomi's & Malia's Simple and Feminine Shared Room

Room Tour: Naomi's & Malia's Simple and Feminine Shared Room

A childhood room is a space where your imagination can truly flourish. Carley, owner of Malia Mu, wanted to create a relaxing space with minimal "stuff" to allow room for her daughter's, Naomi & Malia, imaginations to bloom. Check out this simple and feminine shared room...

What inspired your room design?

My goal for their room was Simple & Feminine. I wanted to create a relaxing space with minimal "stuff" to allow room for their imaginations. We sought out hand made products and natural materials that would grow with them.

Why did you choose your mobile? What does your child think of it?

The girls love their mobiles. The cloud is mesmerizing. Their eyes go big and light up when they look at the swan. I truly believe that Jahje adds a little bit of magic into each one. I love how the mobiles move slightly, even when the air feels so still.

Can you tell us about a few of your favorite details in this room?

Honestly, this question is difficult. Since their room is minimal, each and everything we brought in feels perfect to us. I am happy with how all of the DIYs turned out, including our Ikea House Bed Crib Hack.

Do you have a nightly routine for winding down?

I fill up the diffuser with some water and a few drops of lavender oil and Daddy tells them a freestyle bedtime story.

Tell us one thing your child does right now that you want to remember forever…

I love the way they interact with one another. I will always remember how caring our 8-year-old son, Stacy, is for his baby sisters. He likes to teach them karate! Our 2-year-old, Malia, is just learning to talk and we are all enjoying how she says certain words. She’s also a dance machine. Anytime, anywhere… even at the grocery store! Our 6-month-old, Naomi is very chill and quiet. She likes to give this serious look that I will never forget.

What’s something that has surprised you about being a parent?

We played a game, where we answered this question separately. We were surprised that we both had the same answer! You think you have this parenting thing all figured out, but then what works for one doesn't work for another. With each one, it feels like we are starting all over again, but at the same time creating our own togetherness. They all come from the same parents, same rules, raised the same, but in the end, we are all individuals.

I’m always looking for new books to share with my children. What are a few of your families’ favorites?

Stacy loves mystery novels and the Wimpy Kid series. Malia LOVES shoes, so her favorite book is “ABC’s For the Little G’s” by little giants/David Park

Have you posted your room and details for it elsewhere?
